Exciting upgrades get underway this week at Little Beach in Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve east of Albany, which aim to enhance the visitor experience at this popular swim spot.
The tourist destination, which is a social media favourite due to its white sand and crystal-clear water, attracted 74,000 visitors in 2023-24.
To accommodate growing visitation, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ (DBCA) Albany District will upgrade the carparking area, which will more than double its current capacity to 52 bays with two long-vehicle bays.
The improvements will also include new pedestrian paths connecting to existing facilities and will complement the new accessible toilet facility completed in 2024.
South Coast Regional Leader, Parks and Visitor Services Mike Shephard said the upgrades will allow for better flow and will improve visitor safety.
“As visitor numbers continue to exceed the carpark capacity, vehicles are being parked on the vegetation off the road, causing damage to the environment, creating a traffic hazard for other cars, and putting visitors at risk as they walk down the road to get to the beach,” Mr Shephard said.
“Not only will these upgrades provide more access for people who want to experience the unparalleled beauty of Little Beach, they will also help to protect the natural values of the site.”
DBCA has engaged local contractor WCP Civil Pty Ltd to carry out the works.
“To allow these works to be carried out safely, access to the carpark will be closed. Little Beach will remain accessible by pedestrian access via the Two Peoples Bay heritage trail.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this time while we carry out these important works, and we look forward to reopening the site to visitors soon,” Mr Shephard said.
