• New boardwalk now open at Mangrove Cove in Kalgulup Regional Park
  • Pathway designed to improve access for a wide range of visitors
  • Part of the Cook Labor Government’s historic Plan for Our Parks initiative

Mangrove Cove in Kalgulup Regional Park has become home to a new 190-metre-long boardwalk, replacing the site’s 20-year-old walkway.

Following the same footprint as the original, the new boardwalk winds through the State’s southern-most outcrop of white mangroves in the Leschenault Inlet and adjoins an 820-metre dual-use pathway.

Both are accessible to people using wheelchairs and with prams, providing improved and safer access to meet increasing demand.

New interpretive signage has also been installed on site, providing insight into landscape changes to the area over time, Noongar cultural values, local birdlife and the wonders of white mangroves.

Some finishing work is expected to continue at Mangrove Cove until April 2025, including installation of new seating.

Kalgulup Regional Park was created as part of the Cook Labor Government’s historic Plan for Our Parks initiative, which led to a 28 per cent increase in Western Australia’s conservation estate with more than 6.5 million hectares of land and water protected.

“Providing new and improved facilities that allow more visitors to safely enjoy Bunbury’s stunning Mangrove Cove has been a priority of the Cook Labor Government, and I’m happy to see this work is now completed.

“These new facilities complement other recent upgrades in Kalgulup Regional Park, including the walkways and lookouts that opened in Maidens Reserve last year.

“It’s in keeping with the Cook Labor Government’s commitment to invest in and improve visitor facilities in parks throughout WA so that more tourists and locals can enjoy what our State’s environment has to offer.”

“We are blessed with a stunning natural environment in Bunbury but the uniqueness of our white mangrove is really something special.
