• Yalbunullup mountain bike trails officially opened at community event
  • Project includes seven kilometres of trails, 100-vehicle carpark, and large pavilion
  • Part of Cook Labor Government commitment to improving facilities at Yellagonga Regional Park

Perth's northern suburbs are the place to be this summer with Yellagonga Regional Park now home to a new $4.57 million urban mountain bike trail network along the western banks of Lake Joondalup.

The seven-kilometre-long Yalbunullup trail network forms part of a newly developed, family-friendly area in the northern end of Yellagonga.

This area also features a pavilion, lakeside lookout, bike racks, water fountains, interpretive signage, pathways, landscaping, toilets, and a 100-vehicle carpark, making it more accessible for families seeking outdoor fun this summer.

Yalbunullup was chosen as the trail's name in consultation with Traditional Owners to reflect the traditional Noongar name for the area.

Having created about 100 jobs during the construction, the project was delivered by several local contractors and was overseen by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

"The Cook Labor Government wants Western Australia's environment to be open and accessible.

"That's exactly what these bike trails achieve.

"By opening up access to Yellagonga Regional Park, we have done more than just delivered local jobs – we've improved the local amenity and made Perth's northern suburbs the place to be this summer."

Comments attributed to Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton:

"I am thrilled to have delivered the Yalbunullup mountain bike trails for the community to enjoy.

"It's another piece of high-quality public infrastructure that adds to the attractions in and around Joondalup.

"As Perth's second CBD servicing our northern suburbs, Joondalup is well placed as the home of engaging activities for visitors and locals alike.

"The mountain bike trails are an opportunity for people to get active while connecting to our natural environment at Yellagonga Regional Park."
