Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are on site at Dales Campground following an incident where a dingo attacked a 2-year-old boy at about 7pm on Friday 14 April.

The child has been taken to Tom Price hospital for treatment to serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The safety of visitors is our number one priority. Due to the aggressive behaviour of the dingo and the fact that it has remained at the campground following the incident, rangers are preparing to humanely destroy the animal as soon as a safe opportunity presents.

Dingo attacks are rare in Western Australian national parks and the department is not aware of any similar incident in this area. Signage and information at Dales campground warns visitors that dingoes may be present and provides dingo safety advice.

Anyone who has a dingo encounter in a Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions managed campground or park should report details to park staff or a campground host.
