Swan and Canning river foreshore land managers are encouraged to apply for a share of up to $1 million in funding for restoration projects.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' (DBCA) Parks and Wildlife Service has opened expressions of interest for foreshore stabilisation, restoration and improvement projects under the Riverbank program in 2020-21.

Riverbank funding is supported by the Burswood Park Board and DBCA, and is guided by river-wide condition assessments of foreshore assets and services such as built structures, natural shorelines, vegetation and the Swan Canning Riverpark's public amenity.

A 50/50 funding model with foreshore land managers (largely local governments) will result in the State Government's contribution being matched.

Expression of interest applications will close at 5pm on 1 May, 2020. For more information, visit http://www.pws.dbca.wa.gov.au/riverbankfunding

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The environmental, recreational and cultural values of the Swan and Canning rivers are recognised by the McGowan Government, and the rivers' shorelines and habitats need to be conserved.

"Since the Riverbank Funding program's inception in 2002, the State Government has contributed more than $22.5 million to Riverbank projects.

"This has been matched by riverside foreshore land managers across 294 project sites, and in total represents a $52 million investment in the health and amenity of the Riverpark.

"I encourage local governments and other stakeholders to apply for funding so we can continue to work together to support our important and diverse river foreshores."
