- $100,000 available for not-for-profit community volunteer groups
- Funding aimed at projects that improve the health of the Swan and Canning rivers
The third round of the McGowan Government's Community Rivercare Program is now open, with applications invited until September 23, 2019.
Over the course of the three-year program, not-for-profit community volunteer groups will have shared a total of $900,000 to help improve wildlife habitat, water quality and address foreshore erosion in the Swan Canning catchment.
Grant projects that received funding in round two included:
- Restoration of the Canning River foreshore and better links with Horley Road Wetland;
- Rehabilitation of the Canning River near Harry Hunter Rehabilitation Centre;
- Helena River weed control to promote natural regeneration;
- Lesmurdie Brook weed control and rehabilitation of eroded gully;
- Melville Beach Road stage one foreshore revegetation and weed control;
- Wright Brook river catchment restoration project;
- Jarrah Creek wildlife corridor habitat enhancement project;
- Salter Point community revegetation project; and
- Invasive water lily eradication program trial in the Canning River.

"The McGowan Government's investment is supporting community groups and the valuable work they do along the foreshores of the Swan and Canning rivers.

"The dedication and efforts of grant recipients from rounds one and two has already created incredible improvements to 26 project sites, and I encourage other community groups to apply for the third round of these grants."
