The Mayala Marine Park, in the West Kimberley within Mayala Sea Country, is a 315,000 hectare ‘A’ Class reserve over subtidal and intertidal areas around the islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago.

Featuring fringing reefs, mangrove creeks, seagrass meadows, this marine park also has the highest tidal ranges in Australia, exceeding 11 metres. This plan details how the park will be joint managed by Mayala Traditional Owners and DBCA.

The Mayala people are saltwater people with a unique island culture and deep knowledge of the complex currents and tides in their Sea Country. They carry the responsibilities of their ancestors to keep their Country rich, alive and healthy.
