Status:
ApprovedOccupying over a million hectares, including approximately 490 kilometres of southern coastline near the town of Esperance, the plan covers 71 existing national parks and nature reserves including Stokes, Cape Le Grand and Cape Arid national parks and numerous reserves including the offshore islands of the Recherche Archipelago, with more than 95 proposed additions.
The area boasts a vast number of values including internationally recognised Ramsar sites, a major biographical transition zone with high species richness and wilderness qualities, breeding sites for seals, sea-lions and seabirds and at least 88 Aboriginal heritage sites including one on the National Heritage List.
The plan is located within the traditional lands of the Wudjari/Njunga and Ngadjunmaia Aboriginal tribes.
