The State Government is investing more than $165 million into an Outdoor Adventure Tourism (OAT) package for new and upgraded boating facilities, campgrounds, trails and tourist attractions across Western Australia.
The package will improve the visitor experience and make it easier for more Western Australians to enjoy the state’s great outdoors, encouraging more intrastate visitation to regional tourism destinations, supporting local businesses and helping to diversify regional economies.
The OAT package includes $32.85 million for the Parks and Wildlife Service to deliver new visitor experiences through the upgrade of campgrounds, trails, visitor facilities, the Pemberton Climbing trees and the Penguin Island jetty.
These projects will be funded through the 2024-25 State Budget and rolled out in subsequent financial years.
Campgrounds: A total of $12.1 million will be invested to enhance campgrounds across Western Australia, including upgrades and the creation of new campsites in both regional areas and Perth.
Trails: More than $15 million will support the construction of new trails and upgrades to existing ones in the South West, as well as a new trail in Karijini National Park.
Pemberton climbing trees: To facilitate the reopening of climbing on the iconic Gloucester and Bicentennial Trees in Pemberton, $3 million has been allocated for essential upgrades.
Jetties: Over $2.75 million has been allocated to upgrade Penguin Island Conservation Park jetties.
